Summary
Mao and his CCP liberated most of Northern China from the Japanese by 1945. on the other side, Chiang was supported by the U.S, because they wanted to stop the spread of communism. George Marshall wanted to form a Coalition between the two groups, but that did not work. the Peoples liberation army, led by Mao, faught against the Nationalists from 1947 to 1949, and Chiangs side lost. They were fored to retreat all the way to the Island of Taiwan, and created Nationalist China in Taiwan. on October 1st, 1949, Mao created the peoples republic of China.
