The Cold war between Russia and the United states was a war of many different traits. From huge missile threats, wars against Communism, and more friendly competition in space and economics, The Cold war was very crazy. It is said that the United States won the cold war by the use of economics. This is true mostly because of the idea of Reaganomics. Ronald Reagan was a president during the Cold War, and he had this economic plan to make the Russians lose the cold war. He knew that the Russians would try and do everything that the Americans did, and he also knew that the Russians didn't have nearly as much money. when the Americans started spending their money, the Russians followed, eventually the Russians ran out of money and the Americans were able to outspend the Russians, and in turn win the Cold war. Economics played a huge role in the Cold war, because Russia and the United States are both such huge powerhouse countries.
During the Cold War, their was a period of time that was known as Détente. This was when the tension between Russia and the United states was lessened, and an attempt was made to try and battle through means other than militarily. four of the largest détente events were the Nuclear non proliferation treaty, Ostpolitik, The Helsinki Accords, and the Strategic Arms limitations talks. The Nuclear proliferation treaty was basically a treaty to limit the amount of nuclear weapons that were created in the world. Ostpolitik was a treaty between East and West Germany, to unite them as one country. The Helsinki accords was a meeting of 35 different countries, based around a lot of Human rights movements. The S.A.L.T talks were all about Nuclear weapons, and trying to establish a safer environment between the USA and Russia. I think that the most important détente event of these four was the S.A.L.T talks, because they were trying to get rid of the huge threat of Nuclear war between Russia and the United States.
The United States lost the Vietnam War because of a number of reasons. First off, the USA should not have even started a war there, because they had no good reason to. The Americans did not know what they were getting themselves into when they sent troops there. The Vietnamese knew way more about the land than the Americans, and they had much more influence across the country. The Viet Kong were a huge problem for the Americans, and they played a large role in them losing this war. Also, the Americans had no support from the public as the war got on, because people realized that there was no good reason for them to be fighting. After the Americans lost the war in Vietnam, the Domino effect definitely occurred throughout that part of Asia. After Vietnam fell to entirely Communist rule, Laos as well as Cambodia fell shortly after. One of the worst dictators in history, Pol Pot, was a direct result of the Americans failing to prevent the spread of communism.
