Summary
Operation Barbarossa (Aka Redbeard) was the code name for a German attack on Russia in 1941. it was a complete surprise for Russia as it broke the Nazi-Soviet Non aggression pact. The Germans stormed through Russia, taking many cities such as Crimea, Kiev, Leningrad, and the outskirts of Moscow. Cold weather stopped the Germans from further advancing, but almost 2 million red army soldiers were taken prisoner by that time.
