He saw the Soviets as an "Evil Empire" and he wouldn't not even talk to them for the first year of his presidency. He was much more hard-line than the Détente presidents, as he greatly increased
the military spending, renewing the arms race between Russia and the USA. He also coined the term Reaganomics. Reaganomics was an idea that was designed to cause the Russians to lose the cold war, by making them go bankrupt.
