Summary
Iwo Jima and Okinawa were two very crucial islands to the Americans. It gave them access to the airfields that they could use to fly straight to Tokyo and bomb. There were very few prisoners taken during these battles, as the Japanese men where told to fight to the death, and there were many Kamikaze's active. After these islands were taken, The American's Fire bombed Tokyo. This invasion of Japan took the lives of roughly 1 million American men.
