Adolf Hitler was an Austrian man, who became one of the worlds worst men in history. He was the leader of the notorious Nazi German party, and the force behind the war machine that Germany became in the 1940's. It took him a few years to get power, but he eventually did it all almost entirely legally. in 1928, 12 members of the Nazi party were elected into the Reichstag. By 1932, Hitler's party held 230 seats, which made them the majority party. The then president, Hindenburg, refused to give Hitler the position of Chancellor at this point. In 1933, after the Reichstag fire, Hitlers' party had 288 seats, and hitler had gained the position of Chancellor, only because Hindenburg was trying to use him as a tool against the Communists. Hitler then began putting things in place, and creating groups such as the Gestapo (secret police). in 1934, a night known as the night of the long knives, saw many people die. These people included anyone who opposed him, all socialists, and Ernst Rohn, who was the leader of the S.A. A month later Hindenburg dies, and with a most likely rigged election, Hitler became the President.
The Weimar Republic was a democratic government that was formed in Germany after WWI, in 1918. Friedrich Ebert was the first Chancellor of this party, and he held power until 1925. During the first years of the republic, They had quite a struggle to get the people to like them. The main reason that people didn't like them was because of the treaty of Versailles, and the fact that they wanted to follow it. This treaty put Germany in a very bad position, and the people did not enjoy it at all. In Italy, during 1923, A man by the name of Benito Mousillini Became Prime minister. he had a long path to gain power, and there were many steps he took to get there. He created a group called the Blackshirts, which were essentially his thugs, who carried out his dirty deeds for him. his final push to gain power came with his march on Rome, where he officially walked in and took power. This is how the Founder of Fascism became one of the most powerful dictators of the 20th century.
Life Is Beautiful, is a movie directed by Roberto Benigni, set in 1940's Italy. The entire movie is in Italian, so you will need subtitles to enjoy it. Roberto Benigni is also the main character of this movie. I thought the movie had a very powerful meaning, for a number of reasons. The main characters were Jews, in Nazi-occupied Italy. The use of comedy to explain the horrors of a concentration camp was done very well. The main character uses funny comedy to shield his son from the horrors of what is actually happening. I really enjoyed the way this movie was created, and I thought it was really interesting. Overall, the movie was very educational and eye opening, as well as comedic and entertaining.
