Summary
An attempt at a Coup D'etat took place in Russia in August 1991. Boris Yeltsin becomes the effective leader of the country, and Gorbachev's Communist party was outlawed. on Dec. First 1991, a vote of independence took place in the Ukraine, and it passed in favour of independence. This caused the formation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the end of the USSR.
