In my opinion, The atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the most influential technological advances of the Second World War. nicknamed "Little Boy" and "Fat Man" these two bombs were dropped by the Americans, destroying two Japanese cities and killing thousands of people. I believe that this was the best technological advancement for a number of reasons. The bombs were dropped because the Americans thought it would end the war, and they were very effective. The Japanese knew they could not compare to the raw power of the Americans nuclear warfare. Overall, the Americans Nuclear bombs were the best technological advancement of the Second World war.
In my opinion, D Day was the largest turning point for the allied forces in World War Two. approximately 156'000 troops landed on five different beaches on June 6th, 1944. The Americans landed on Omaha and Utah, The British on Gold and Sword, and the Canadian troops on Juno beach. This was the biggest turning point for the allies because of the impact it made on the Germans in France. If the allies had lost the battles on D Day, the Germans may have won the war. As German officer Irwin Rommel stated, "whoever wins the battles of D Day, most likely wins the war". in conclusion, The allied biggest turning point came on june 6th 1944, on the beaches of Normandy, at D Day.
Winston Churchill’s quote “Wars are not won on evacuations” was spoken by him after the evacuation of Dunkirk. This operation, codenamed Operation Dynamo, was an evacuation of thousands of surrounded English and French troops, across the English channel, after the Germans surrounded them in France. I think that Winston Churchill said this because he knows that you need a number of things to win a war. For example, If you were in a boxing match, are you going to win by simply running around the ring and avoiding the opponent? No, You need to fight back. Churchill's statement is simply saying that The allies are not going to win the war if they do not fight back. They can not keep running away and avoiding the fight.
Saving Private Ryan is an incredible movie, that tells the story of a squad of Rangers in WWII, who are trying to find a paratrooper who lost his brothers. The storyline is amazing, and it has a very powerful meaning. It is very vivid and slightly gory, but tells a great story. I think Tom Hanks is a stellar actor, and he does a great job to portray the character he is. The way that World War Two is shown in this movie is unlike any other that I have seen. It showed all aspects of the war, and how terrible it was at times. Everything from the massacres of battle, to the horrors of the Concentration camps are shown. Overall, this movie is amazing, and the producers of this movie should be very proud of their accomplishments.
